The call came from the man's female roommate at 2:40 a.m., Chesterfield Township Det. Sgt. Deron Myers said.

Upon arrival to the 23 Mile Road apartment complex, officers encountered the man profusely bleeding from self-inflicted cuts on both his wrists while sitting on the kitchen floor in the apartment, according to a press release.

As officers attempted to help and reason with the man, he raised a knife to his throat and told officers, “Go ahead and kill me,” according to the release.

It was at this time officer Michael Ogden Tased the man in fear that if something wasn’t done he would further injure himself. The deployment of the Taser stun gun caused the man to drop the knife and fall back against the cupboards. However, once the Tasing cycle was complete the man went back to reach for the knife.

Ogden deployed his Taser stun gun again, once again disabling the man. It was at this time officers moved in and disarmed him.

"It was a great call," Myers said, adding it was a judgement call within the department's policies and procedures. "It worked perfectly."

Medstar and Chesterfield Township fire units were called to administer first aide. The man was transported to Mount Clemens Regional Hospital where he is currently recovering, according to the release.

Electronic Dog Repellent Keeps Dog Pee Of My Tires!

Finally an electronic dog repellent that really works and without causing pain!

You have probably seen dogs running loose in your neighborhood and just like the rest of us you are probably feed up with it too.

I recently bought a cctv surveillance system for my home security. As a side benefit I now know which pesky dog it is that has been running loose doing his dirty deed on my tires. So now that he has been caught how do I get rid of him? I tried spray on repellents but they did nothing but leave more stains.

After a little research online I found the Ultrasonic Super Dog Chaser dog repellent. I considered using pepper spray for dogs or a stun baton type of stun gun but decided to try the electronic dog repellent because it uses ultrasonic sound that dogs hear but people do not, like a traditional dog whistle. And I really like that it has an effective range of forty feet, much further than the spray or stun baton.

Now when that stray dog is in my yard I will use my electronic super dog chaser to run him off. After some discussion with her mother and the help of the TV show 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' we decided to buy her a Taser C2, in hot pink of course. A Taser, although extremely effective, would not be enough for our daughters safety.

What about her safety on campus? The campus security do not allow students or faculty to carry Tasers on the college grounds. I guess only criminals can have weapons on campus.

What we found for our daughter is the Ultimate College Safety and Survival kit made by SafeFamilyLife. It has a door stop alarm for her dorm room, motion alert alarm, an electronic pocket whistle alarm, different varieties and sizes of personal defense sprays, a book diversion safe for her valuables and more. The kit even comes with manuals, DVDs and articles with tips and instructions on how to use everything for her very own ultimate safety and survival plan.

Now with a taser C2, pepper spray, and the pocket whistle alarm, we feel more confident about our daughters safety off the college campus. And with the detailed product manuals, instructional DVDs, alarms for her dorm room and a small safe for valuables this really is the ultimate college safety and survival kit.

I am not saying that campus security is not adequate, unfortunately they can not be all places at all times. The college safety kit and a Taser will definitely increase our daughters chance of surviving her college years even when we can not be there to protect her.

My Favorite Dog Deterent, TheTelescoping Stun Baton, Will Give a Stray Dog 800,000 High Voltage Reasons to Run Away!

My wife and I like to take a nice walk through the neighborhood and watch the sun set over the mountains to the west. It would be nice to think that one day we might not need to worry about attack from viscous stray dogs, and not need a high voltage dog repellent stun baton or other protection device.

Some people think that when they no longer want or can afford that out of control dog, dropping it off in a rural neighborhood is a good idea. It is not, but unfortunately, it happens. These are the dogs that require us to carry protection and I would rather use 800,000 volts of dog deterrent in the form of a telescoping stun baton as apposed to trying to shoot mt 45 cal. Ruger during an attack from a stray dog.

Not that it would bother me very much to have to shoot a vicious stray dog, my concern would be more for the danger to my neighbors from a stray bullet. That will never be a problem with a telescoping stun baton. After a couple of seconds of being shocked by 800,000 volts of dog deterrent, that stray dog will probably run and hide when it sees us coming down the street.

Twenty Reasons Why Criminals Do Not Want Your Home to Have a Wireless Security System

Twenty Things a Criminal Will Never Tell You and Twenty Reasons why Your Home Should Have a Wireless Home Security System

1. Sometimes, I carry a clipboard. Sometimes, I dress like a lawn guy and carry a rake. I do my best to never, ever look like a crook.

2. The two things I hate most: barking dogs and nosy neighbors.

3. I’ll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your neighbor hears one loud sound, he’ll stop what he’s doing and wait to hear it again. If he doesn’t hear it again, he’ll just go back to what he was doing. It’s human nature.

4. I’m not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy alarm system and leave your house without setting it?

5. I love looking in your windows. I’m looking for signs that you’re home, and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I’d like. I’ll drive or walk through your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my targets.

6. Avoid announcing your vacation on your Facebook page. It’s easier than you think to look up your address.

7. To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to let in a little fresh air. To me, it’s an invitation.

8. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.

9. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator.

10. Do you really think I won’t look in your sock drawer? I always check dresser drawers, the bedside table, and the medicine cabinet.

11. Here’s a helpful hint: I almost never go into kids’ rooms.

12. You’re right: I won’t have enough time to break into that safe where you keep your valuables. But if it’s not bolted down, I’ll take it with me.

13. A loud TV or radio can be a better deterrent than the best alarm system. Leave your TV on when you go out.

14. If it snows while you’re out of town, get a neighbor to create car and foot tracks into the house. Virgin drifts in the driveway are a dead giveaway.

15. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.

16. If decorative glass is part of your front entrance, don’t let your alarm company install the control pad where I can see if it’s set. That makes it too easy.

17. A good security company alarms the window over the sink. And the windows on the second floor, which often access the master bedroom—and your jewelry. It’s not a bad idea to put motion detectors up there too.

18. It’s raining, you’re fumbling with your umbrella, and you forget to lock your door—understandable. But understand this: I don’t take a day off because of bad weather.

19. I always knock first. If you answer, I’ll ask for directions somewhere or offer to clean your gutters. (Don’t take me up on it.)

20. If you don’t answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in.

My Neice has a College Safety Plan: a Hot Pink TASER Stun gun with a Laser site

The TASER C2 should be your niece or daughter's hot pink high voltage defense plan.

My brother and I were talking recently about his daughter and her plans for college next fall. He told me about different colleges and universities she might attend, discussed the different educational benefits, music programs and sports curriculum they offered. One thing he did not mention was her personal safety and protection.

That is when the discussion turned to her safety on and off campus. Of course my niece over heard us talking about her and what would be her best college safety and defense plan. She mentioned a recent episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels in which Shannon Tweed, the mother of Gene Simmons children, had a Taser and pepper spray party. This sounded interesting.

At the Taser Party there was a demonstration of how to use the Taser C2 with the laser site. " This is the one I want" were the next words from my brothers daughter.
Apparently the hot pink C2 is what she was referring to. I was not surprised when my brother agreed it is a great way for her to be protected while away at college.

After a little research we found a Personal Security store online that sells High Voltage Tasers for personal defense. The price was very reasonable (if you can put a price on your daughter's personal safety an security) and the instant rebate on the Taser C2 model with the laser site had me sold.

And that is how my niece solved her personal safety and security while away at college.

Man Buys his wife 100,000 volts Stun Gun and loses his Testicles!

A funny story from a guy who purchased his lovely wife a 100,000 volt stun gun as a gift.

Last weekend I saw something that sparked my interest. The occasion was our 15th anniversary and I was looking for a little something extra for my wife. What I came across was a 100,000-volt stun gun. The effects of the high voltage stun gun were supposed to be non lethal and short lived, with no long-term adverse affect on the assailant, allowing her adequate time to retreat to safety. WAY TOO COOL!

Long story short, I bought the stun device and brought it home. I loaded the single 9 volt eveready battery in the stun gun and pushed the button. Loud crackling and a a small blue electric arc between the electrodes! I was a little disappointed. I did learn, however that if I pushed the button AND pressed it against a metal surface at the same
time I'd get the blue arc of electricity darting back and forth between the prongs and back to the surface. AWESOME!!! Unfortunately, I have yet to explain to my wife what that burn spot is on the face of her microwave.

Okay, so I was home alone with this new toy, thinking to myself that it couldn't be all that bad with only one 9 volt battery, right? There I sat in my recliner, my cat looking on intently (trusting little soul) while I was reading the directions and thinking that I really needed to try this 100,000 volt stun gun on a flesh & blood moving target.

I must admit I thought about zapping the cat (for a fraction of second) and thought better of it. She is such a sweet cat. But, if I was going to give this thing to my wife to protect herself against a mugger, I did want some assurance it would work as advertised. Am I wrong?

So, there I sat in a pair of shorts and a tank top with my reading glasses perched delicately on the bridge of my nose, directions in one hand, stun gun in the other. The directions said that
a one-second burst would shock and disorient your assailant; a two-second burst was supposed to cause muscle spasms and a major loss of bodily control; a three-second burst would purportedly make your assailant flop on the ground like a fish out of water. Any burst longer than three seconds would be wasting the batteries. All thewhile I'm looking at this little device kind of cute really and (loaded with one little 9 volt battery) thinking to myself, 'no possible way!'

What happened next is almost beyond description, but I'll do my best...?

I'm sitting there alone, the cat looking on with her head cocked to one side as to say, 'don't do it dumb ass,' reasoning that a one second burst from such a tiny little thing couldn't hurt all that
bad. I decided to give myself a one second burst just for the heck of it. I touched the prongs to my naked thigh, pushed the button, and . .

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION . . WHAT THE HELL!!!

I'm pretty sure Jessie Ventura ran in through the side door, picked me up in the recliner, then body slammed us both on the carpet, over and over and over again. I vaguely recall waking up on my side in the fetal position with tears in my eyes body soaking wet, both nipples on fire, testicles nowhere to be found, with my left arm tucked under my body in the oddest position, and tingling in my legs?

The cat was making meowing sounds I had never heard before, clinging to a picture frame hanging above the fireplace, obviously in an attempt to avoid getting slammed by my body flopping all over the living room.

Note: If you ever feel compelled to 'mug' yourself with a 100,000 volt stun gun, one
note of caution: there is no such thing as a one second burst when
you zap yourself! You will not let go of that thing until it is tossed from your hand by a violent thrashing about on the floor. A three second burst would be considered conservative?

SON-OF-A-BITCH, THAT HURT LIKE HELL!!!

A minute or so later (I can't be sure, as time was a relative thing at that point after being shocked with 100,000 volts), I collected my wits (what little I had left), sat up and surveyed the landscape.

My bent reading glasses were on the mantel of the fireplace. The recliner was upside down and about 8 feet or so from where it originally was. My triceps, right thigh and both nipples were still twitching. My face felt like it had been shot up with Novocain, and my bottom lip weighed 88 lbs!!! I had no control over the drooling. Apparently I pooped in my shorts, but was too numb from the 100,000 volt shock from the stun gun to know for sure and my sense of smell was gone. I saw a faint smoke cloud above my head which I believe came from my hair.

I'm still looking for my testicles and I'm offering a significant reward for their safe return!!

My wife loved the stun gun, and now regularly threatens me with it!

'If you think Education is difficult, try being stupid.'

Road Rage and my Cell Phone Stun Gun

How I used my Cell Phone Stun gun in a Road Rage Incident.

I live in a rural area at base of the Sierra Mountains. The roads into town are narrow and winding with cell phone coverage spotty at best, as you would expect. Generally things are pretty quiet out here. Even so my wife and I always bring our cell phones and stun guns when we travel as part of our personal defense plan.

We have all had a fast moving car or truck will come up behind us on a rural road at one time or another. In these instances it is customary to find a safe place to pull over and let the faster vehicle pass. This usually results in a smile and a wave, but not always.

Recently I was taking a drive into the city and had my first ever experience with road rage on a rural road. A big Chevy truck came up on me at a high rate of speed and as always I pulled of the road and let him pass as soon as it was safe. As he passed I gave the customary wave although at the speed this guy was traveling there was no way to tell if he waved back. At this point I got an uneasy feeling and made sure my cell phone stun gun and my AT&T cell phone were accessible and ready to use.

A few miles further, where the rural road meets the highway into town, the the big truck was stopped at the side. Although it seemed a bit unusual, I assumed he was most likely talking on his cell phone. But as I passed he quickly pulled onto the road and right on my rear bumper again. Then as I turned onto the highway the man in the big truck ran the stop sign and roared onto the highway so again I pulled off to allow him to pass. When I noticed he was pulling his truck up next to mine my cell phone stun gun was already in my hand.

It was now clear that this was going to be my first road rage incident in a rural area. Rather than jump out of my truck and possibly causing a physical confrontation, I simply pretended to call 911 with my cell phone stun gun. That was enough to change his mind as I watched the expression on his face turn from rage to shock in an instant as he sped back onto the highway.

Even though we all hope to never be involved in a road rage incident, it can happen any where, even on a rural road. Plan ahead, stay calm and carry a cell phone stun gun for personal protection. Even in your car.

OC Pepper Spray is Your best Choice for Personal Protection

Personal defensive sprays have been around for many years. Normal mace or pepper sprays can top out at 10%, not Wildfire 18% Pepper Spray. This wildfire defense spray is like a fire in a can, fire you can you use to protect yourself.
Firemaster has designed this defense pepper spray to immediately penetrate into skin pores causing immediate reaction of knee dropping defense. Due to the intense heat units of the 18% pepper spray, it's especially assaulting to the mucosa of the eyes and mouth. This in return not only causes great pain but causes the eyes to instantly close shut, not to mention 3 Million SHU's roaming around in their mouth. Perfect for giving you the time you need to escape.

In my opinion one very important feature of the Wildfire 18% OC pepper spray series is that the actual spray also has what is called "identifying dye". This addition helps the police identify the attacker later, due to the fact the dye does not wash off easily.

I would recommend the FireMaster WildFire pepper spray to anyone who is considering buying a personal defense spray.

Protecting your family with a Family Safety and Survival Kit

With the rise in the unemployment rate and latest natural disasters happening around the globe crime is on the rise. You don’t want to think the worst of someone walking towards you, although just being ready could mean the difference.

Carry your bags close to you; this makes it less inviting for a dirt bag to grab your goods. Also carrying your bag close means your personal protection device is within reach.

Look confident, believe you ready are for whatever may happen, and that no one better try it. Believe me when you’re carrying your personal protection device it alone gives you that confidence.

If you are planning to go somewhere, let someone know where and when you expect to be back.

If you are being followed head to a crowded place. Better yet if you’re familiar with your area head for the police station. Upon arriving let them know of your situation and that you have a personal protection device on you.

Pay close attention of multiple people that are convening on you, you may be getting set-up for a mugging. This is where practicing with your personal protection device will come in handy. Remember it’s like defensive driving be prepared.

Know yourself, how do you react in a crisis situation? Have a game plan, think of some scenarios and what you would do. Take a personal defense class or watch some personal protection videos, this will give you an idea of your options and some of the situations you may find yourself in that self defense is your only option.

When confronted show your anger not your fear. A furious reaction may stop an attack. Remember that dirt bag attacker is looking for an easy victim. Yelling is always a good deterrent. A choice word to yell is FIRE, this will draw attention to those who do not want to get involved but may be concerned for their own safety and may come to help.

If there are other people around, yell loudly enough to get their attention to what the assailant is doing. This also could be enough of a distraction giving you time to retrieve your personal protection device and zap the dirt bag with it.

If your are alone and do not know anyone on the street or nearby, try calling a name out to make the attacker believe you may be with someone. This may also help you if you are at home alone.

If someone has a weapon, stay calm and wait for an opportunity. Weapons make the situation more dangerous and difficult, but there still may be something you can do about the situation.

Basically use non-resistance to prevent physical violence. If possible try to negotiate with your attacker, make them see you as a real person with a name and a life.

Stall for time any way possible. Yell at the top of your lungs while reaching for your personal protection device.

Distract or divert the attacker, try screaming or using a whistle, shriek like a banshee while always looking for a chance to flee the hostile situation. Remember your verbal assertiveness, let them try it.

Main thing be ready, stay calm, and think quick.

An Effective Personal Self Defense Plan

We all know, as the unemployment rate rises, so does the crime rate. Weather you live in the city or the country crime is an unfortunate statistic. Carrying a personal self defense device is a good idea for any law abiding citizen. A self defense spray, high voltage mini stun gun or personal alarm is a great way to protect yourself and your loved ones. Deciding which one is right for you depends on your personal needs, circumstances and comfort level.

In a situation where you are able to see your attacker, such as when you are leaving work or going to your car after a day of shopping at the mall, a high voltage mini stun gun and a personal alarm with a key ring is a great combination. Before you leave the building, have your personal alarm and keys in your hand. Switch your mini stun gun to the ready or on position and either have it in your hand (best) or easily accessible. You can clip it to your purse strap or belt, or put it in an easy to reach pocket. You now have an effective personal self defense plan.

If you feel you are in danger of being attacked, activating your personal alarm or a quick burst of your mini stun gun will usually send your potential attacker running. If they are still not convinced (no one said criminals are smart) a few seconds of contact from your high voltage mini stun gun will give you more than enough time to run for safety. Once you are in a safe location, call 911 and give them the location of the incident, your current location, and if possible a good description of the attacker. And of course follow the 911 operator’s instructions and do not hang up until you are told to do so.

Remember these key points and you will have the upper hand in any situation. Try to stay calm and alert.Criminals are desperate and not thinking rationally. Remaining calm will give you control of your situation. Having an effective personal self defense plan that includes a high voltage mini stun gun and a personal alarm on your key chain could be the difference between being a victim or a survivor.

Personal Defense Tips

Personal Defense Tips

I always encourage everyone to do as much as you possibly can to avoid a confrontation - "anticipation and avoidance" are the key words. If you get caught up in a situation, try to talk to an aggressor without provoking them. Practice relaxation, as appearing fearful or stressed can actually provoke an attack. Remember that body language is important in aggressive situations, so maintain a comfortable distance between you and the aggressor.

The use of the alarm on a multi-function stun gun, which emits a loud piercing sound, will temporarily disorientate an attacker giving you enough time to escape. Carry it somewhere where you can get to it quickly - don't leave your stun gun buried at the bottom of your purse or bag. If you have a multi-function stun gun with an alarm, use it and shout as well.

Keep yourself steady if danger threatens. Panic can disable you, so again it is very important to learn how to stay in control when confronted with a difficult situation. If it is necessary for you to fight back, use what police refer to as the "bash and dash" approach. The primary attack points are the eyes, nose, mouth, ears, throat, groin, knees or shins; choose whichever is easiest to get to.

When an attacker grabs you from behind don't struggle forward, you'll only exhaust yourself. It is much more effective to throw yourself backwards and surprise your attacker. You can also stomp on the lower leg or foot. Doing this as you are moving backwards will throw the attacker off guard and give you the advantage.

Once you've achieved your primary aim of stunning or surprising your attacker, get away as fast as you can. If you manage to overcome them don't attack again, you could be putting yourself in more danger or you could end up being charged with assault.

It is your right to defend yourself with reasonable force. This includes using items you have with you such as an umbrella, bag, multi-function stun gun with an alarm or pepper spray. However, don't carry or use anything that the law would regard as an illegal weapon. Of course always check your local laws regarding personal protection devices.

Of course these are just the basics of self-defense, to learn more about personal protection or self defense and get some exercise at the same time, buy or rent a personal defense DVD, find a local self-defense class and encourage your family get involved as well. Just remember "anticipation and avoidance" are the best forms of personal defense.

STREET SAFETY TIPS

STREET SAFETY TIPS
Wherever you are on the street, in an office building or shopping mall, driving, waiting for a bus or cab, stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings. Always have your personal alarm with flashlight easily accessible from your purse or pocket.
Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uncomfortable, avoid the person or situation and leave.
Always be familiar with the neighborhoods where you live and work. Check out the locations of police and fire stations, public telephones, hospitals, and restaurants, or stores that are open late.

On Foot-Day or Night

Stick to well-lighted, well-traveled streets. Avoid shortcuts through wooded areas, dark parking lots, or alley. Always carry a personal alarm with a flashlight.

Don't flash money or other tempting targets like jewelry or clothing.

Carry your purse close to your body, with your flashlight and personal alarm in your hand or easily accessible.

Put your wallet in an inside coat or front pants pocket, not your back pocket. Carry only what is necessary and try not to keep currency and credit cards all in one place.

Don't wear shoes or clothing that restrict your movements.

Have your car or house key with you personal alarm/flahlight in hand before you reach the door.

Try to use automated teller machines in the daytime. Have your card in hand and don't approach the machine if you're uneasy about people nearby. Better yet, only use the ATM machines inside of grocery store, malls, or gas stations.

If you think someone is following you, switch direction or cross the street. Walk toward an open store, restaurant, or lighted house.

If someone harasses you, don't be embarrassed. Loudly say "Leave me alone! Someone call the police! Get away!" If that is not enough of a deterrent, using an extremely loud personal alarm will send a would-be attacker running.

Vehicle Safety:

Keep your car in good running condition. Always check your fuel level before traveling any distance. Make sure there's enough gas to get where you're going and back.

Always roll up the windows and lock car doors, even if you're coming right back. Check inside and out before getting in.

Avoid parking in isolated areas. Be especially alert and have your personal alarm in hand when in dark lots and underground parking garages.

If you think someone is following you, don't head home. Drive to the nearest police or fire station, gas station, or other open business to get help

If Someone Tries to Rob You:

Don't resist. Give up your property. It's not worth your life.

Report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker as accurately as possible. Your actions can help prevent others from being victims.

Take a Stand! If you can, use your personal alarm to scare away an attacker. Most criminals are too lazy to attack someone who is prepared.

Make your neighborhood and working place safer by reporting broken street lights, cleaning up parks and vacant lots, and lobbying local government for better lighting in public places.

Initiate a block watch program in your neighborhood by contacting your neighbors and local crime prevention unit.

Home Security Systems

A Homesafe® Wireless Home Security System for your home or office could be the best investment you make. You've never had any trouble. But one otherwise quiet night, you hear a strange noise. It sounds like the jiggling of a doorknob. Is someone breaking into your house? Are the kids still in bed? Where did you leave the phone? It's three o'clock in the morning, and there is no one around to help. With no home alarm system, your mind starts racing a million miles a second trying to think of ways to keep your family safe and - at the same time - work out an escape route.

This is a situation all too many people find themselves in every year. The middle of a potentially life-threatening emergency with no security alarm system is no time to discover you need additional help. The best time to work those things through is right now when all is well. There are some simple ideas you can put into place right now that can help prevent break-ins at your home. Even if you have a home alarm system, these tips go a long way to give added safety.

Leave the Outside Lights On Every Night

Most people never turn on the outside lights unless they are leaving. While they believe turning outdoor lights on when they leave is a safety measure, they are only partially correct. Why? Because if the only time you turn the outdoor lights on is when you leave, you're sending a glaring signal to burglars that says, "Hey! I've gone out for several hours tonight so help yourself. I'll turn the lights off when I get back so you and your buddies will know not to come around."

Turn your porch lights and other outdoor lights on *every* night, whether you're leaving your home or not. This way, you accomplish two things. First, you shed light on dark areas that might otherwise help to camouflage burglars. Second, you take away the signal burglars are waiting to see that tells them you're away from home. Alarm systems are fabulous for helping in times of emergency, but prevention is still the number-one cure for break-ins.

Un-Clutter Windows and Doorways

When you give burglars plenty of cover, they will likely take advantage of it. Tall bushes and shrubs that fully or partially cover windows make great hiding places. Burglars can easily squat behind a bush as they work on prying open a window for entry. Likewise, tall topiaries, statues or other objects that offer cover to burglars should be removed from around your doorways. Don't provide anything that would give a robber a hiding place.

Make It Too Much Trouble

Most burglars are looking for an easy score. If they think entry will be too difficult or that there is a high risk of being caught (as is the case with security alarm systems), they will probably move on to another house. If you currently have a home alarm system, place the signs and window stickers in prominent places where they can be readily seen. This practice is frequently recommended by police departments because of its effectiveness. Motion detector lights are also good deterrents. Security pins for sliding doors and windows would definitely be too much trouble for your average burglar to fuss with. In addition, double-paned windows are extra trouble to break (and extra noisy!) giving burglars yet another reason to look elsewhere for a victim.

Another good idea is to survey your home and think like a burglar. If you were trying to break into your own house, how would you do it? What would you need to be successful? If you find easy ways to break into your home, chances are a burglar will, too. Make notes as you walk around your house and then take immediate action to stop trouble before it starts.

--

Jill Steele works for Monitronics International, one of the largest and fastest growing security alarm system monitoring companies in the United States.
